Queenie Bennett,
the daughter of a Mobile steamboat pilot, had fallen for the dashing Kentucky
native and had given him the golden coin as a token of her affection at
the train station as he left for war in 1861.
She eventually married another Shiloh veteran, William Henry Walker Sr. They lived near Meridian, Mississippi, and had nine children. She died in 1883 of complications she suffered after giving birth to twins. |
